AUSTRAC Enrolment Support Australia

Every reporting entity in Australia must enrol with AUSTRAC before providing designated services. For thousands of businesses newly captured under the Tranche 2 reforms, enrolment opened on 31 March 2026 with full obligations commencing 1 July 2026. If you are unsure whether you need to enrol, what the process involves or whether your enrolment is correct, One AML can help. We guide reporting entities through AUSTRAC enrolment from start to finish so nothing is missed and your registration is accurate from day one.

What Is AUSTRAC Enrolment?

AUSTRAC is Australia's financial intelligence agency and AML/CTF regulator. Enrolment is the process by which a reporting entity registers with AUSTRAC to declare that it provides designated services under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006.

Enrolment is not optional. If your business provides a designated service, you are legally required to enrol with AUSTRAC. Providing a designated service without enrolling is a breach of the AML/CTF Act and can result in civil penalties.

Enrolment is done through AUSTRAC Online, AUSTRAC's secure reporting portal. As part of the process, you will need to provide information about your business, the designated services you provide, your business structure and your AML/CTF Compliance Officer.

Who Needs to Enrol with AUSTRAC?

Any business that provides a designated service under the AML/CTF Act must enrol. Designated services cover a broad range of financial and professional activities.

Businesses that must enrol include:

  • Banks, credit unions and other deposit-taking institutions
  • Remittance dealers and money transfer businesses
  • Digital currency exchange providers
  • Financial planners and advisers
  • Mortgage brokers
  • Lawyers and law firms providing certain services (from 1 July 2026)
  • Accountants and bookkeepers providing certain services (from 1 July 2026)
  • Real estate agents (from 1 July 2026)
  • Conveyancers (from 1 July 2026)
  • Trust and company service providers (from 1 July 2026)
  • High-value dealers in precious metals and stones (from 1 July 2026)

If you are unsure whether your business provides a designated service and therefore needs to enrol, book a consultation, and we will confirm your obligations.

AUSTRAC Enrolment and the Tranche 2 Reforms

The AML/CTF Amendment Act 2024 extended the AML/CTF regime to thousands of professional services businesses that previously had no formal obligations. These Tranche 2 entities became eligible to enrol with AUSTRAC from 31 March 2026, with full compliance obligations beginning 1 July 2026.

Key Tranche 2 enrolment dates:

31 March 2026: AUSTRAC enrolment opens for Tranche 2 entities. Businesses should enrol as early as possible to allow time to implement their AML/CTF program before obligations begin.

1 July 2026: All AML/CTF obligations commence for Tranche 2 entities. From this date, enrolled reporting entities must have an operational AML/CTF program, conduct customer due diligence, monitor transactions and report to AUSTRAC as required.

If you are a Tranche 2 business and have not yet enrolled or started building your AML/CTF program, you need to act now. One AML can support you through both enrolment and program implementation.

What Information Do You Need to Enrol with AUSTRAC?

Getting your enrolment right requires accurate, complete information about your business. Errors or omissions in your enrolment can create compliance issues and require correction later.

To enrol with AUSTRAC, you will generally need:

  • Your Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN)
  • Details of your business structure, including beneficial owners and senior management
  • A description of the designated services your business provides
  • The name and contact details of your appointed AML/CTF Compliance Officer
  • Information about the jurisdictions you operate in
  • Details of any related bodies corporate that also provide designated services

Your enrolment information must be kept current. If any details change after enrolment, you are required to update your registration with AUSTRAC promptly.

How One AML Supports Your AUSTRAC Enrolment

Our team works with you to make sure your AUSTRAC enrolment is accurate, complete and lodged correctly. We guide you through every step of the process.

Eligibility Assessment Before you enrol, we confirm whether your business provides designated services and therefore has an obligation to register. We also identify which specific services trigger your obligations so your enrolment accurately reflects your activities.

Compliance Officer Appointment AUSTRAC requires every reporting entity to appoint an AML/CTF Compliance Officer at management level before or at the time of enrolment. We advise on what this role requires and help you identify the right person or arrangement for your business.

Enrolment Preparation We help you gather and organise all the information needed to complete your AUSTRAC enrolment accurately. We review your business structure, ownership and designated services to ensure nothing is missing.

Enrolment Submission Guidance We guide you through the AUSTRAC Online portal and the enrolment submission process so it is completed correctly the first time.

Post-Enrolment Support Enrolment is just the beginning. After you enrol, you need an operational AML/CTF program, a risk assessment, CDD processes and reporting capabilities in place by 1 July 2026. We support you through all of it.

AUSTRAC Enrolment Is Only the First Step

Enrolling with AUSTRAC satisfies your registration obligation, but it does not make your business compliant. From the date your obligations begin, you must also have:

  • A documented AML/CTF risk assessment
  • A written AML/CTF program covering policies, procedures and controls
  • A customer due diligence and KYC framework
  • Transaction monitoring processes
  • Suspicious Matter Reporting procedures
  • Record-keeping for a minimum of seven years
  • AML/CTF training for relevant staff
  • An independent audit of your program at least every three years

One AML can help you build all of this. Our consulting packages are designed to take you from enrolment through to a fully operational, AUSTRAC-compliant program. See our [AML/CTF Program] and Consulting and Advisory pages for more details on what is included.

Keeping Your AUSTRAC Enrolment Up to Date

Once enrolled, you have an ongoing obligation to keep your AUSTRAC registration accurate. You must update your enrolment if:

  • Your business name, address or contact details change
  • You appoint a new AML/CTF Compliance Officer
  • You start or stop providing designated services
  • Your business structure or ownership changes
  • You acquire or close a related business that provides designated services

Failing to keep your enrolment current is itself a compliance breach. Our ongoing advisory services help you stay on top of these obligations so your registration always reflects your current business.
